The New Year is Here: 8 Tips to Make Your New Year Gym Resolution a Success

Happy New Year! It's that time of year again where we all start making our new year’s resolutions. And if you’re like most people, one of your top resolutions is probably related to fitness or weight loss. But let's face it, sticking to a gym routine can be challenging. That is why I'm here to help with my 8 tips to help you make your New Year Gym Resolution a success.

1. Set realistic goals:

You may have big dreams, but it's essential to set achievable goals to reach your desired destination. Analyse where you're currently at and what you can comfortably work towards. For example, start by going to the gym twice a week and build from there.

Suburban Fitness has up to 6 classes per day, hopefully making it easy for you to find a class to suit your schedule.

2. Create a plan:

You wouldn't start a business or take a trip without planning, don't sabotage your gym goals by not setting a plan. Plan your gym schedule weekly or daily, and make sure it fits within your daily routine. Treat it as an important appointment with yourself, and stick to it!

3. Find what you enjoy:

Exercise isn't meant to torture you, so find exercises that you enjoy doing, and stick with them. It can be anything from Spin class to swimming or yoga. The more you enjoy being active, the more likely you are to stick to your gym commitment.

Suburban Fitness have cardio sessions, strength classes, Yoga, Boxing and Pilates, come and try them with our amazing New Year New You Special:

4. Consistency is key:

You won't see results overnight, but with consistency and dedication, you’ll get there. Stick to your gym routine and schedule, and trust the process. Changing habits take time, changing your body shape even longer, stay with it, be patient and be kind to yourself.

5. Mix it up:

Doing the same type of workout daily can get dull. To keep things interesting and challenging, shake-up your workout routine. Try different exercises, machines, and classes that will strengthen and push your limits.

Our Condition, Strength and Fusion Classes are perfect to mix things up and you can always chuck in a Yoga, Boxing or Pilates class one in a while.

6. Get a gym buddy:

Working out with a friend can help you stay accountable and motivated. You'll have someone to encourage you when you feel like giving up or not showing up at the gym. You'll be less likely to miss a workout when you know someone else is counting on you.

7. Track your progress:

Keeping track of your progress is crucial. It's a great way to see how far you've come and motivate yourself to keep going. There are various apps to monitor your workouts or even invest in a fitness tracker. How your clothes fit is also a great way of tracking your progress, I personally recommend keeping off the scales especially at the beginning of your fitness journey.

8. Finally, reward yourself:

Achieving your gym goals is no small feat, so it's vital that you reward yourself. It doesn't have to be something extravagant, but treat yourself to something that will motivate you to keep pushing yourself.

Conclusion:

Remember, making your New Year Gym Resolution a success isn't necessarily about perfection. It's more about creating daily habits that will help you get started and keep going. Finally, give yourself grace, don't beat yourself up if you miss a workout or indulge in unhealthy eating. It's okay to have setbacks; the goal is progress. With these eight tips, you're ready to take on your gym resolution and have a happy and healthy New Year!
