8 Tips and Tricks to Keep Your Fitness Training Routine During the Festive Season

Blog Introduction:

It’s easy to give up on your fitness routine during the festive season, with all the food, drinks, and parties happening around. However, maintaining your fitness habits during this period is crucial to avoid losing track and having a hard time getting back in shape after the new year rolls in. As a personal trainer, I understand the struggle that many of my gym clients face, which is why I’ve compiled 8 tips and tricks to keep your fitness training routine on track until the end of 2023.

1. Schedule your workouts.

One of the main reasons people stop exercising during the festive season is the lack of time management. Start by scheduling your workouts ahead of time, either in the morning before work or in the evening after festivities end. This way, you’ll be able to dedicate uninterrupted time to your fitness routine.

2. Find fitness activities to do with family and friends.

Instead of solely focusing on parties and consuming food and alcohol, engage in activities that incorporate physical activity such as a hike, walk, or group fitness class. You’d be surprised how many people are willing to join you in getting active during the holidays!

3. Keep yourself accountable.

Use apps, journals, or accountability partners to stay motivated and on track with your fitness routine. Make it a goal to stick to your routine and monitor your progress along the way. Celebrate your successes and reflect on areas where you can improve.

4. Realistic Nutrition.

During the festive season, there will be lots of unhealthy food options. Instead of depriving yourself, indulge in moderation to maintain your mental health and satisfy your cravings. Prioritize whole foods and healthy snacks to fuel your body to enhance your fitness routine. It’s Christmas, the idea is to have fun, food and drink play an important part in that, dont stress, make good choices when you can and don’t stress if you don’t!!

5. Stay hydrated.

With all the alcohol and sugar in the mix, it’s important to stay hydrated this festive season. Carry a reusable water bottle and aim to keep hydrated. This way, you’ll stay hydrated while still having a fun time.

6. Plan ahead for healthy meals.

If you’re hosting or visiting with family and friends try and plan meals that incorporate healthy options such as lean protein, vegetables, and healthy fats. This way, you’ll have healthy options to sustain you. There will be plenty of options available that are maybe not as healthy for you in the long term but they are nice! so treat yourself, relax and enjoy the holidays.

7. Buddy Up.

Working out with a friend or family member can help you stay motivated and accountable. You can also plan active social events, such as going for a walk, bike ride etc or just trying a new fitness class together. This will help you stay active while still enjoying the festive season with loved ones.

8. Finally

Don’t be too hard on yourself. It's okay to slip up sometimes. If you miss a workout or indulge in some unhealthy food, don’t beat yourself up. Forgive yourselves and get back on track. It's all about progress and not perfection.

Conclusion:

Don’t let the festive season ruin your fitness routine. Incorporate these 8 tips and tricks into your schedule and remain focused on your fitness goals.
