Achieving Long-Term Health & Wellness: 8 Tips from Suburban Fitness

Health, wellness and nutrition

Are you looking to start a healthier lifestyle? Are you ready to become more active and conscious of your eating and lifestyle habits? If so, we at Suburban Fitness are here to help. We know that it can be difficult to make healthy changes, but it doesn’t have to be. Today, we’ll be discussing eight simple tips to implement to your weekly routine.

Tip 1: Eat Regularly – Eating regular meals throughout the day helps fuel your body and gives it the energy it needs for exercise. This also helps keep hunger away so that you don’t overeat when mealtime comes around. Try to eat at least three times per day, with healthy snacks in between if needed.

Tip 2: Increase Your Protein Intake – Increasing protein intake can help build muscle mass while helping you feel full longer. Not sure where to start? aim to eat at least 1-1.5grams of protein per kilo of bodyweight i.e. weight 80kg - consume 120grams of protein per day. See the easy cheat sheet link at the bottom of the blog

Tip 3: Avoid Sugary Drinks – Sugary drinks such as soda or processed juice can contain large amounts of sugar, which are not that great, neither are the artificial sweeteners in zero calorie drinks. These drinks should be viewed as an occasional treat not as a staple hydration method. Instead, opt for around 2 - 3 litres of water accompanied by 1-2 cups of unsweetened tea or coffee for hydration throughout the day.

Tip 4: Eat Fibre-Rich Foods – Eating plenty of fibre-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and whole grains helps keep your digestive system healthy while keeping you full longer. Fibrous foods also provide essential vitamins and minerals that help nourish your body so make sure to include them in your meals!

Tip 5: Avoid Processed Foods – Processed foods are often filled with unhealthy fats, sugars and sodium. These foods are high in calories but low in nutrients, they are packaged to look and smell great but these foods are not that healthy for you and should be considered as a treat option. Try to avoid these whenever possible and opt for fresh produce instead!

Tip 6: Add Healthy Fats To Your Diet – Healthy fats such as avocados, olive oil and nuts are packed with nutrients that are essential for good health. They also help increase satiety levels which can aid in weight loss efforts over time! Great options but also high in calories, it pays to measure the quantities of these healthy fats.

Tip 7: Get Enough Sleep – Getting enough sleep is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle because it helps repair muscles after exercise while allowing your body time to rest and recover from strenuous activity. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night!

Tip 8: Take Time To Relax– Stress can be detrimental to overall health; take some time each day (just 30 mins) to relax, either by meditating, reading a book, going for a walk or doing the gardening, take time for yourself, switch off the devices and unwind. Reducing stress is so important in this busy busy age!!!
