If you're looking to get fit or to increase your fitness levels, you have probably been going to a gym trying out a few classes or working out alone. Resistance training has been shown to provide numerous benefits when incorporated into a fitness program and can help you reach your fitness goals faster. Here at Suburban Fitness, we have recently decided to dedicate all of our Group-Fit sessions two days a week to STRENGTH training.

In this post, we're going to explore some of the benefits of resistance/strength training and why you should consider coming along to our gym to try it out.

Strengthens Muscles

Resistance training, whether it be lifting weights with free weights ( dumbbells, kettlebells, power bags etc) or weight machines work by applying force against your muscles. This force causes the muscle fibres to tear, and when they repair, they grow stronger and more resilient. Over time, this can lead to increased muscle mass and improved muscle tone, making it easier to perform everyday tasks and lift heavier weights.

Burns Fat

Resistance training, particularly when performed at a higher intensity, can be an effective way to burn fat. While cardiovascular exercises such as what you will find in our CONDITIONING classes burn calories during the workout, strength training helps you to keep burning calories even after you've stopped exercising. By building muscle mass, you increase your metabolic rate, which means that your body burns more calories at rest.

Helps Prevent Injuries

Strong muscles and tendons are less likely to be injured than weak ones. By incorporating strength training into your fitness routine, you help to strengthen your muscles and make them more resilient to injury. Additionally, strength training can help to improve your posture, which can further help to reduce your risk of injury.

Improves Bone Density

As we age, our bones become weaker and more susceptible to fractures. strength training has been shown to help improve bone density, particularly in women. This can help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions.

Boosts Confidence

Finally, strength training can help to boost your confidence and self-esteem. As you see progress in your workouts and start to feel stronger and more toned, you'll naturally feel better about yourself and your abilities. I have seen so many clients burst with pride when they notice the weights they are lifting are heavier than when they started or that they can do full press-ups instead of knee press-ups. It feels good knowing that your hard work is paying off and the results are noticeable

Conclusion:

As you can see, there are numerous benefits to incorporating strength training into your fitness routine. Whether you're looking to build lean muscle, burn fat, or simply improve your overall health, strength training can help. If you're new to strength training, it's important to start slowly and build up over time, our Group STRENGTH classes are a great way to start.

With time and dedication, you'll start to see the changes in your body and your overall health.
